Jude the Obscure was written by Thomas Hardey. Born on June 2, 1840 in Southwest England, Hardy began writing at an early age. Though his first passion was with poetry, he was a great novelist. Some of his work was very popular, like Under the Green Wood Tree, Return of the Native and Far from the Madding Crowd, but some was seen to be very offensive and shocking for its content, like Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure. Jude the Obscure was written in 1896 and was his last novel written. He wrote so noteable poetry afterwords, but not any novels. Jude is the story of a boy who falls in love with his cousin. This novel was known for its critical and offensive views of marraige and social class sepreation and prejudice.
